Diving on Omijima Island
2020/01/01 - 2021/12/31
Omijima Island is located in the midst of the clear ocean waters of Kita-Nagato Kaigan Quasi-National Park. With the open ocean waters off the rocky coast of Funabashi (on the west side), and the white beaches of Shizu-ura, from which a beautiful world of seaweed extends, diving and snorkeling can be enjoyed year-round on Omijima Island. Additionally, because of the island's unusual shape, divers have only to go underwater a little ways to enjoy some incredible sea life. Beginners and children as young as fourth grade (elementary school) may also participate (with some conditions).
Fall Foliage & Light-up Events at Tainei-ji Temple
2020 Mid Nov - 2020 Early Dec
One of Yamaguchi Prefecture's foremost fall foliage spots. The spacious temple grounds are home to about 120 Japanese maple and gingko trees that will turn the grounds red from mid-November to early December. There are a number of good viewing spots for fall foliage, including the area in front of the Main Hall, around the three Shakyamuni Buddha statues and 16 arhat statues, the Reflecting Pond, and Helmet-Resting Rock, but the foliage is especially beautiful along the Kiyagawa River, and many photographers come to take pictures here. The foliage you'll see during the day is sure to be lovely, but as the sun sets, you'll also be able to enjoy the fall leaves lit up at night. Light-ups will be held from early November to late December.
