Chrysanthemum Festival (Itsukushima Shrine)
Every year on October 15th, "Bugaku" court music and dance is performed on the lit-up stage at Itsukushima Shrine. Chrysanthemum flowers will be displayed in front of the shrine, and ten pieces of music will be performed. "Bugaku" is an art form traditional to Miyajima, and its music and dance forms came to Japan long ago from the Korean Peninsula and China. Now, Bugaku is only performed by the Imperial Household Agency's Music Department, Itsukushima Shrine, and several other shrines and organizations. Also, during this performance, visitors may enter Itsukushima Shrine after 5 p.m., when it usually closes, and enjoy watching the performance in the lit-up shrine from within the grounds.
