Reitai Festival (Sumo Competition) at Chikuzen Province Ichinomiya Sumiyoshi Shrine
This festival includes archery on horseback and sumo rituals, held in thanks to the deity Sumiyoshi Daijin, by whose grace the Empress Jingu, who is also enshrined here, was able to return safely across the sea from Korea. In previous years, the grand festival rituals (Yato Festival, Main Hall Festival, and Osame Festival) were held for three days beginning on October 12th, and the "Kaminigiwai" events (procession of festival pages, horseback archery, and children's sumo) were held for three days beginning on October 11th.
