This is the largest karst (topography featuring unusually-shaped limestone rocks) plain in Japan, stretching across the central and eastern parts of Mine City.
The area is divided into two plateaus to the east and west by the Koto River, and the eastern area has been designated a Special Natural Monument and Quasi-National Park.
